Table 5 Proposed criteria for the diagnosis of leukemic arthritis

From: Differences between leukemic arthritis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis

In a patient with arthritis, consider the diagnosis of leukemic arthritis and perform bone marrow aspirate if at least 1 laboratory and 2 clinical criteria are present

Laboratory criteria

 • Leukopenia < 4000/µL

 • Thrombocytopenia < 150,000/µL

 • Neutropenia < 1500/µL

Clinical criteria

 • Pain intensity 10/10

 • Night pain

 • Pain that does not relieve with analgesics

 • Fever

 • Weightloss

 • Nocturnal diaphoresis

 • Lymphadenopathy

 • Hepatosplenomegaly
